This fellowship has been created in the name of Don Garrison, a Cal Lutheran coach from the early years recruited by Coach Bob Shoup whose legacy is intact and will forever be a part of our tradition as a man of faith who led by example. He will always be remembered as having made a considerable contribution to our school’s excellence in athletics and in the lives he influenced, both personally and professionally.
The enduring memory of Don Garrison comes from the students, coaches and others in the Cal Lutheran community who still remember his approachable and caring way, his thorough knowledge of the sports he taught, his constant preparedness and work ethic, his great communication skills and his honesty and integrity. He loved his role and made sport fun for all involved. He took a personal interest in people with his time and his results show how good a coach he was and how much people loved and respected him.
The founder of the wrestling program at California Lutheran, Don Garrison coached the Kingsmen to a 46-21-2 record from 1965 to 1969. During his stint as head of the wrestling team, he led CLU to three consecutive NAIA District 3 championships (1967, ’68, ’69). He was named NAIA District 3 coach of the year in both 1968 and ’69. |

In football he was Defensive coordinator for the CLU football team from 1964 until 1978 with Head Football Coach, Bob Shoup, including the 1971 NAIA Division II National Championship.
