Charles “Chuck” Rosten Coon, age 78, of Willow River died peacefully at his home Sunday, May 31, 2020. Chuck was born December 25, 1941 in Marshall, MN, the son of Charles and Marjorie (Rosten) Coon. He graduated from Fontana High School and continued his education in English Education at California Lutheran University. It was here that he met his love, Carma. On April 4, 1965 Chuck married Carma Elaine Westrom in Thousand Oaks, CA.
Chuck taught at Pacoima Lutheran School while Carma finished her degree. After moving “home” to Minnesota, Chuck studied at Luther Seminary where he became ordained in July of 1972. During his internship at Hazelden Foundation he discovered his calling for ministry. Chuck ministered to troubled families seeking healing at Lutheran Social Services in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Chuck worked specifically with families of alcoholics. Little did he know that 20 years later he would return to Hazelden. This time for treatment, a season of life that would bring recovery and a powerful sense of gratitude for each day.
Chuck was accepted into the Residency program of Clinical Pastoral Education at Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse. This was a time of personal, professional, and spiritual growth for Chuck. Through the program, Chuck went on to train in the Intentional Interim Ministry program which prepared Chuck for the next 12 years serving congregations as a Interim Minister.
Chuck and Carma retired in Willow River, Minnesota on the lake. A place where Chuck enjoyed fishing, carving, reading and camping. |
