We Will Not Forget

Remembering Our Fallen Comrades

This website section serves to remember and to honor Cal Lutheran football players who are no longer with us, but whose memory and contributions are the foundation of who we are as a football tradition. Although no longer physically with us, we will not forget these fallen Kingsmen. Their commitment and contribution while attending Cal Lutheran, what they learned at Cal Lutheran and then took with them and applied in their lives in their own unique ways has truly brought honor to our school and to all of us.

There are many to remember, including Ron and Roy Behnke, Eddie Gee, Tim Savage, Artie Green, Rick Scott, Billy Glover, Bill Harrison, and so many others. As we occasionally republish this website, we will continue to profile other members of our football family that will forever be a valuable part of our history and tradition. For this initial publication of our website we have chosen to profile…

JIM BAUER ‘68

Jim Bauer will long be remembered at Cal Lutheran as a very tough lineman that everyone liked and always “full of life”.

The Bauer name is more than a memory around Cal Lutheran. Jim played at the college from 1968 through 1971, and was a defensive coordinator and special teams coach through the 1978 season. His brother, Hank, also played for Cal Lutheran as well as playing in the NFL as a special teams standout for the San Diego Chargers. Thanks to the Bauer brothers, successful special teams have become something of a specialty at CLC.

Jim became a long-time coach at Littlerock High in Littlerock, California where he led the Lobos to multiple Golden League championships before leaving in 2004 to become athletic director and football coach at Knight High School in Palmdale, California. He coached the football team for three seasons through 2007 and then continued on as the athletic director. The Antelope Valley Union High School District school board recently approved a resolution to have the Knight High School Football stadium named after Jim who is credited with getting the stadium built after the school opened in Palmdale in 2005. A dedication ceremony was held at the stadium on September 2nd in honor of Jim who died of a heart attack at the age of 59 in 2009.
